CTR — Click-Through Rate

The percentage of people who click on an ad after seeing it.

Definition

Click-Through Rate (CTR) is the ratio of users who click on a specific link or ad to the total number of users who viewed it (impressions). CTR measures how compelling your creative and copy are at driving action. A high CTR means your message is resonating with your audience; a low CTR suggests your creative, targeting, or offer needs work. CTR is used across all digital channels — search ads, display ads, email, and social — though benchmark rates vary dramatically by channel and format.

Formula

CTR = (Total Clicks ÷ Total Impressions) × 100%

Divide total clicks by total impressions and multiply by 100 to get a percentage.

Example

Your ad receives 500 clicks from 50,000 impressions. CTR = (500 ÷ 50,000) × 100% = 1.0%. One in every 100 people who saw your ad clicked it.
